My dear ladies, as we all know owambe’s are like the in thing in Nigeria right now. Owambe is just the Nigerian name for parties like weddings, burials, birthdays and so on. We can also say it’s a slang for parties. I am going to be focusing on ladies for this article and because I know young ladies always have parties most weekends especially wedding ceremonies. For young ladies we are at that stage when all of our friends are getting married so you need to be prepared to go there and turn heads.
1. Means of Transportation to the venue:
Most times the venue for the Owambe is far, so try to get a cab or ask someone who you know that has a car to drop you off incase you don’t have one. Reason for this is that if you would have to walk a long distance in heels or take a bike we all know how this is uncomfortable and with the hot sun spoiling your makeup. You need to package yourself well so try to find a comfortable means of transport there for your own good.
If you are wearing a native or English attire, please do not wear flat shoes. You need to walk tall in that heel and walk with all confidence. As for me I would keep a pair of slippers close by so when you are tired just change to the slippers but make sure you make an appearance with the heels first.
Gone are the days when only our mothers tie gele (head gear), this days no matter the part you are from in Nigeria, gele is part of our cultural attire. It’s not all the time you would ask someone to tie it for you, watch videos online and learn simple gele styles. If you want to wear a native attire trust me that gele must be in place.
Do not attempt to go to that party without makeup please. Some girls get their makeup done by professionals when they have a party but as we know we can’t all afford that kind of luxury, let’s just learn the basic makeup and color coordination. A bad makeup would scare people away *lol*
You’re not the bride, so don’t come overdressed and steal her show. In an attempt to slay some ladies would sew ridiculous styles or try to expose their body too much. Thank God for all this style bloggers, one can easily get nice styles to sew. If you are wearing an English or native attire just make sure you look good and decent.
Get a sunshade that fits your face shape, take it along with you or wear it when necessary. It adds a look of sophistication to your dressing and in case you have a reason to walk or go outside the event venue you can protect your face from the sun. You can also spice things up with some plain fashion glasses.
Stand up and dance, don’t just sit and be looking sad maybe because the jollof rice has not reached your table yet or probably you’re worried that he is still yet to propose to you. Dance and have fun, do not forget it’s a party.
Sometimes the MC would make jokes or ask the guests to participate in activities at the party. Stand up and do it well, For instance at weddings they ask single ladies to catch the bride’s bouquet. You know you are single and yet you refused to stand up, How else will the eligible bachelors find you interesting or most importantly realize you’re available, if you don’t participate or go out to catch the bouquet?!
The best and cheapest makeup you can wear is your smile. Don’t frown so they don’t think you are not happy your friend is getting married or they start looking at you as if you are a sadist. You might be stressed out or busy but please try to wear that smile, you are beautiful.
10. Learn simple table manners:
It’s sad some ladies do not know how to eat in public or even use cutlery appropriately. Watch the way you chew and drink. If alcohol is served
