Exclusive Interview With Thrilling Contortionist and Dance Artist – Richy Manny

People think Richy Manny is a magician due to his ability to twist his bones in a way you never thought possible, he was the winner of Amstel Malta Dance Competition 2013. After that he never relaxed or gave up on his dreams, in the year 2013 he made it to the MALTINA DANCE HALL season 7 with his family and they made it to the final. Richy makes music his hobby and has featured in many musical videos which includes; Eva Alordiah – WAR COMING, DJ Jimmy Jatt FT BankyW and Phyno – E TO BEH, Lynxx – LEAVE STORY, Q Dot – IBADAN FT Olamide to mention but a few.
In a recent interview with Trendsexpress’ Ogbeide Precious, we got to know more about this wonderfully talented being. Excerpts below:

T.E: Please tell us briefly about yourself.

R.M: My name is Otserioluwa Righteous Tomi, Stage Name_ Richy Manny, Member of DR Contortionist, From delta state, lived and based in Lagos, I’m a Christian, humble, a music lover and I’m straight with good sense of humor and a strong believe in God. 

T.E: What was growing up like for you?

R.M: My growing up was like a movie series with different parts which came along with challenges, growing up in a polygamous home was not rosy at all. If you grew up that way you will know what I’m talking about.

T.E: Were you born a contortionist or was it something you learned?  

R.M: I wasn’t born a contortionist as a matter of fact I started as a dancer then discovered contortion in the process, so I trained  myself and I’m still learning, still stretching till today.

T.E: Has there been any side effects of contortion on your health?

R.M: Yeah, side infects in positive ways, contortion keeps me healthy and stronger. It makes me feels more relaxed and flexible.

T.E: Did your family support you being a contortionist?

R.M: The first time I was caught in the act was while I was rehearsing, it was a drama scene and people started asking me if I was normal but the truth is I got the support I needed, thou not strong enough but at least few are happy to have a flexible brother lol. 

T.E: What is your favourite food?

R.M: My favorite food?!! **yummy hahaha** it has to do with the native pot as a delta boy (Starch and banger soup

T.E: Which agencies have you worked for and who do you hope to work with ?

R.M: I have worked with DOUBLE E, TOWN CRIERS, ORACLE, BEATCOSSEY etc. In terms of working or collaboration I would love to work with the KOKO MASTER DBANJ, TWO FACE, ICE PRINCE and to work with contortionist outside Nigeria and with many other top artiste to feature in their music videos. 

T.E: What is your relationship with Dflex and how do you both do contortion with the same passion and one soul?

R.M: My relationship with DFLEX…. I call him brother we are not from the same root or state but he is more like a brother to me, I have this huge love for him which I can’t even explain no #homo, hahaha he is a great guy, we both do contortioniong together with the same passion because we mostly rehearse together and pray together. We believe in the same God and we’re pursuing the same result as a team.

T.E: Do you think the art of contortion can be learned?

R.M: Contortion can be learnt, it’s a process that requires time, discipline, and self courage, with no age limit.

T.E: Is there any new project at hand?

R.M: A lot of new projects and budgets for 2016. Just wait for it, can’t disclose them yet.

T.E: How do you cope with female admirers?

R.M: Female fans or admirers are adorable, me coping with them is very simple you like me I like you in return no strings attached, no fighting we just address ourselves maturedly #Benice.

T.E: Speaking about competitions, did you ever think you would win Amstel Malta competition?

R.M: Winning the competition hosted by Amstel Malta was GOD’s DOING, meeting fellow dancers like you that dress to kill at the audition will scare you away first, **smiles** but  based on one or two things God separated me and said its was my turn to win and shine #winks. 

T.E: Talking about romance now, Is there a special twinkle of love in your heart right now?

R.M: We’re going to talk about that next episode **grins**

T.E: Is there anything else you aspire to be apart from being a contortionist? 

R.M: oh yes, apart from being a contortionist, I also wanna be a Music star, the love I have for music hmmm only God can take the love away, so expect my single soonest, hahahahah. 

T.E: How do you handle mistakes and have you ever sustained injuries during contortions?

R.M: I handle my mistakes by praying and every mistake I make turns to lesson. I make sure I don’t repeat my mistakes and make sure I conquer what made me fail. Yes I sustain injuries while trying new poses in contortion, in the contortion world you just have to endure pains and learn how to enjoy the pain…… No pain no Gain.

T.E: If God gave you a chance to be someone else, would you still like to be a contortionist?

R.M: If God gives me a chance to be someone else I would still wanna be ME because there’s nothing like me in the world, yes I would still like to be a contortionist/Dance artist and Song writer. I’m wonderfully made and multi-talented.
